Japan’s foremost White Cloth Producing Region

Gosen first become known for producing “Gosen Hira” hakamas some 200 yeas ago in the Edo period. The abundance of water and moderate humidity has created a favorable environment for the development of white clothe textiles which have reached throughout Japan. Recently Gosen has been pushing forward to develop new products including washable silk.


Japan’s Leader in knit Industry

Equal in magnitude to the postwar fiber industry revolution was the development of knit industry. Always endeavors to improve leading producer of women’s knit outerwear. From design to finished product, cutting edge computer editing and hand picked materials have become a Gosen standard. Gosen has been recognized for its sewing technology, specifically the ability to join dissimilar fabrics. In 1994 the “Gosen Dream” brand was released throughout Japan. And in 2001 the “Gosen Kid’s Collection “ was introduced based on design images from city elementary schools Further, Gosen is currently in the middle of breaking into the Shanghai clothing market.


Blessing of Quality Water and Open Space

Due to Gosen's rich lands and abundant water resources. It has become the southern prefectures leading producer of cultivated agricultural products including ginko, renkon, tulip bulbs, cut flowers, peonies, chestnuts, taro, strawberries, kiwi fruit and melons. As a designated national taro production region, the “Kinu Otome “ brand is known for its one of a kind white color and consistency. It is the taro chosen by the Imperial household. In the heart of the chestnut producing region, high luster, sweet, soft chestnuts abound. The Muramatsu chestnut is known in and outside the prefecture, being shipped as far North as the Hokuriku region.
The Hiruno district of the Gold village contains ginko trees as old as the sea itself. As the leading producer of the gold leaved ginko, orders are placed from all over Japan. In addition, Gosen has one of the contry's two large peony and premiere tulip bulb producers for ornamental horticulture. Events are held each year to promote these products not just in Niigata, but throughout Japan.


Carp Farming , Carp cuisine

The cultivation of carp has thrived due to the abundance of fresh water. Buyers from all over Japan come to Ojiyo city where breeding colored carp has been passed down as the main industry. Carp are raised and shipped not only for viewing but for their culinary value. When it comes to carp delicacies, Gosen has many specialty shops producing “Amani” and “Arai” for which the area is well know.
